They are at it again and the buzz is there will be Weight Watchers changes for 2020. I have been doing WW off and on for many years and have gotten used to them changing the program every 2-3 years and according to everything I am reading some new program changes are on the horizon!

WHAT ARE THE WEIGHT WATCHERS CHANGES FOR 2020

It seems like just yesterday I was writing about the WW changes for 2019 and before that it was the changes for 2018!! Weight Watchers likes to keep things fresh and current for their members!

I have scoured the internet and found all the information I can about the program updates. There is a lot of speculation about these updates and please remember that at this very moment this is all speculation and has not been confirmed by WW! My understanding is that this will all start on November 11th.

I am not sure why they will start in November and not wait until January but my guess is they want to get it rolling before the first of the year because that is their biggest time of year! The program is being called the New My WW 2020 Program.

WW AUSTRALIA HAS ALREADY STARTED

The WW program in Australia has already unveiled and started the new Weight Watchers changes for 2020. It seems hard to believe that the changes would be any different for us from what they are now doing there!!

According to the Australia WW website the myWW is backed by science, customized for you and is powered by the app.

This is what the Australia WW site says about the new myWW program:

We know that everyone is different. And when it comes to losing weight and getting healthy, what works for one person might not work for you. Our newest program, myWW, takes everything we've learned from over 2 years of extensive research with over 20,000 members across the globe and turns it into our most customised, groundbreaking program ever.

It starts with a personal assessment about your eating habits and lifestyle. Then you're scientifically matched with a proven weight-loss plan that's right for you. (No more guesswork.) Once you have a plan, you're guided step-by-step through your first month on WW to make sure that you're off to the best start. You'll get a personalised SmartPoints Budget along with recipes, tips, meal plans, an incredible online community, access to a real WW Coach 24/7, and more, customised for your specific plan, plus personalised content to help you with any challenges you might face along the way.

I have included some screenshots from the WW Australia website to give you some visuals! Feel free to click over there and see these for yourself!

THERE WILL BE 3 PLANS ON WW

The information leads me to believe that there will be three plans available to chose from on WW very soon. This is the biggest part of the Weight Watchers changes for 2020.

I have heard a LOT of people complain about Freestyle and maybe the powers that be have listened and decided to make changes that will help meet the needs of more individuals!

Most people like to have choices and WW is going to be giving us more choices so we can find a plan that works best for us.

The plans will be color-coded into a BLUE plan, a GREEN plan and a PURPLE plan.

Here is what I have learned about each plan.Weight Watchers Changes for 2020: myWW - Life is Sweeter By Design (3)

WW BLUE PLAN

The blue plan sounds like the current Freestyle program. My hope and prayer is that it is exactly the same with no changes. 🙂 From what I have read that is the case, but we will wait for total confirmation from WW to be sure.

If you are not familiar with the current Freestyle program here are the basics.

Each person has a SmartPoints allowance every day. Most people I know have 23 points a day. You are also allowed to eat foods that have zero points. There is a list of over 200 zero points fruits, vegetables and lean proteins.

You get extra weekly points to use throughout the week or to save up for one special meal that week.

WW GREEN PLAN

Before the Freestyle plan it was just the SmartPoints WW plan. The green plan sounds a lot like the SmartPoints Beyond the Scale plan.

You will have a set amount of SmartPoints each day. I have heard rumors it will be about 30 points a day. There are 100 or so zero points fruits and veggies only. These are fresh or frozen. If they are canned they have to be in water or their own juices.

A LOT of people loved the regular SmartPoints plan and I have a feeling there will be some very happy people when they find out about this option!!

I am not sure how weekly points will work but my guess is there will still be weekly points available.

WW PURPLE PLAN

The purple plan sounds like a modified version of the simply filling plan. Simply filling is a plan where you can eat anything that is on the simply filling list of approved foods.

There is no counting of points as long as you eat off the list. This works great for people who don't like the hassle of counting points!

So the new purple plan will still have a list of approved foods, but my understanding is that the list has changed. There will be no bread, wraps, cereals, etc. on the new list except oatmeal. There are no oils either, but rice, pasta, and potatoes are now on the list! It is a give and take, LOL.

It will be a list of around 300 approved foods that you can eat.

Another new change will be that you get 16 points a day for foods that are not on the list.

So this plan will now require some points counting, but not as much as the other plans. I do not know if there will be weekly points for this plan or not.

HOW DO I CHOOSE THE RIGHT PLAN FOR ME?

Based on the new Weight Watchers changes for 2020 a big question will be how do I choose the right WW plan for me?? This will be harder for people who are brand new to WW because you don't have experience with any of the plans.

I have heard that there will be a questionnaire to complete when you join that will help you decide which plan will work best for you. My hope is that this questionnaire will be available to current members also.

The other option is to look at how you are doing right now on Freestyle. If it is working for you then I would not make a change to a different plan. Why fix something that isn't broken, right?

If you are not finding as much success as you had hoped on the WW Freestyle program then you might want to give the green or purple plan a chance.

It is nice to have some options within the program itself!

DIGITAL, WORKSHOPS OR PERSONAL COACHING

There are still going to be three different ways to participate in WW.

You can do the program digitally and use the website and the app for all the information and help you need.

There will still be live workshops where you go to a meeting with real live people every week. This option also gives you total access to the website and app.

The last option is to do personal coaching. You will follow the program and have a personal coach who gives you one-on-one personal support and guidance.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The bottom line is that WW is still going to be a great program with more choices. I hope you don't freak out just yet. Let's try things out and see which food plan will work best for us. It is still about making healthier choices in all areas of our lives!

I will be doing my best to update my Weight Watchers recipes with correct points as soon as possible once the recipe builder is functioning for the new food plans!

What do you think of the Weight Watchers changes for 2020? I would love to hear your thoughts! Be sure to join my Weight Watchers Facebook group where there will be some lively discussions about it as well!
