Sad: Remy Loses His Family

Emile and Remy eventually give themselves away while in the old lady's kitchen, and the old lady is not happy about it. She chases the rats with a shotgun and eventually, the chase causes the entire ceiling to cave in, revealing Remy's family and their home.

Remy's age is never mentioned and the movie takes place two years after Gusteau died. Some viewers say that the final conversation between them in the car is meant to suggest that Remy is Gusteau reincarnated and that's why he has his talent for cooking.

Given that Anton is most likely in his 50's at the time of the movie, this would mean he was a child in the 1960's or very late 1950's. So therefore, it is highly possible that the elderly woman at the beginning is an older Mrs. Ego.

He is not a typical rat, and his personality is more like that of a human, as he walks on two feet instead of four because he doesn't like the idea of his paws touching both the ground and the food he eats. What he thinks of his talent is a bit of modesty, as shown when Linguini asked him if he could actually cook.

The final act hinges on a good review from a restaurant critic that once sank the restaurant's five star rating. Remy's ratatouille is a hit, but when Remy's rat friends are also found in the kitchen, the restaurant is forced to close down. Later, the characters reemerge at a new restaurant and all is well in the end.

A few mild insults: "stupid," "loser." One "hell." Parents need to know that, like all of Pixar's other films, Ratatouille includes nuanced humor (about the French, haute cuisine, food critics, and so on) and references aimed directly at adults.
