How do I dispose of a mattress in Horry County? ›

Residents living in the unincorporated areas of Horry County may dispose of mattresses at any SWA Recycling Center. Residents living in a municipality should contact their local municipality. Businesses wishing to dispose of mattresses should bring them to the landfill located at 1886 Highway 90, Conway, SC.

State law requires separate recycling for electronics, TVs and computers. This means TVs and computers CANNOT be placed in the garbage or curbside recycling containers. If you have a computer or TV that is ready for pick-up, contact the Solid Waste Division directly at 843-918-2160.

Dried household paint will be accepted as part of household garbage. Let it dry completely, or add kitty litter, sand, or cement to help absorb and dry the paint. Place it with household garbage for pickup with the lid removed. NEVER PLACE LIQUID PAINT IN THE GARBAGE ROLL CART!

While it's not an option we would recommend, you can of course take your old mattress to your local tip. However, to reduce the number of items we send to landfill each year, try to make use of other ways to dispose of your mattress instead.

The city offers curbside recycling for our residential customers. You do not have to separate recyclables, and materials should be kept co-mingled, or loose in the green recycling container (no bags). All containers need to be rinsed and clean!

How do you dispose of fresh paint? ›

If you have a small amount of paint left, brush it on to scrap paper or cardboard and leave it to dry. Once dry, the paper or card can be placed in your household bin. If there is a larger amount of paint in the can (more than a few centimetres deep), add some dry soil, sand or sawdust to the can and leave to harden.

Empty or dry metal paint cans are accepted at most Recycling Centres but check with your local authority first. Recycling Centres are unable to accept liquid paint, as liquid wastes are banned from landfill sites.

Per Horry County Ordinance #50-01 ~ Only residents living in the unincorporated areas of Horry County can utilize the 25 Recycling Convenience Centers.

People can recycle most mattresses at local facilities. Numerous organizations and businesses accept mattresses in various conditions for recycling. If recycling a mattress is not possible, some charities will accept mattresses in good condition. Otherwise, disposal at a landfill is the last option.
