Looking for a creative Easter snack for kids? These pretzel and peanut butter birds’ nests are easy, fun and yummy!

Updated February 2022

One of our favorite Easter activities inJean’s book, The Artful Year: Celebrating the Seasons & Holidays with Crafts & Recipes,is this Easter snack for kids! Birds’ nests made out of peanut butter playdough and pretzel sticks. This is both a creative activity and a yummy snack!

First, the kids make a batch of the peanut butter playdough. Then they mold it into theshape of a birds’ nest, adding pretzel “sticks” and either eggs or little birds. And then they eat it, of course!

MATERIALS

  • Peanut Butter Playdough (see recipe below)
  • Pretzel sticks
  • Easter candy, like chocolate eggs or marshmallow peeps

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Make your playdough

Using the recipe below, or your favorite edible playdough recipe, make the peanut butter playdough.

  2. Create your nest shape

Divide the peanut butter dough into 4-6 balls. Roll the peanut butter into a ball and then press your thumb into the center, working it around the circumference to create a pinch pot.

  3. Add pretzel sticks

Poke and press the pretzel sticks into the peanut butter pinch pot to act as twigs in the nest snack.

Description

This edible playdough recipe is so easy to make and is a guaranteed hit for pretend play (and maybe a little nibbling!).

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/41/2 cup honey (just enough to make it stick together)

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl with an electric mixer. It’s as easy as that!

Notes

Note:We’ve tried a number of variations on the peanut butter playdough, sometimes including a cup of powdered milk in place of a cup of the powdered sugar, sometimes adding cocoa powder for a more chocolate-y experience, etc, but we usually come back to this basic recipe.
