NATALIE’S POV.
I stood and watched the Alpha with squinted eyes, wondering what and how he was going to find his mate.
I was never a fan of a mate selection event, but it was just because of his order—Alpha Asher ordered all the female in Blue Iris City to be present, and that any lady found absent from this event would be severely dealt with by the Alpha.
He walked past me the first time and I felt something weird, but I ignored it, thinking I was just overthinking—not until I felt it again.
This time, the feeling became stronger when he walked towards me with a crumpled look.
A look that shows that of Confusion, and he took a few strides like I was the one who was meant to clear it.
“Who are you?” He suddenly asked when he stopped before me.
“Natalie,” I simply answered with my head bowed, still trying to know why and how I felt this way.
It was obviously the first time I was feeling this way in my entire life, and I couldn’t help but imagine why the feeling became stronger when he stood closer to me.
“Are you feeling what I’m feeling, Natalie?” He asked huskily, and I quickly glanced up to look at him in shock.
So I wasn’t the only one feeling this way—he also felt it.
“Yes, your highness,” I simply answered with my head bowed when everyone gasped.
Shockingly, I turned to stare at them wishing to know what was happening because it felt like I was the only one in the dark.....
“Do you have any idea that you feeling that way makes you my mate?” Alpha Asher said coldly, and I became confused as if I was the one who actually made myself to feel that way.
“So what was happening means that I’m his mate—we’re mated?!” I asked myself unbelievably, my eyes becoming misty.
I was so excited because I never believed anything good would be able to come from me again….
I’d written myself off, and the people of Blue Iris City were not excluded.....
“You don’t need to be happy because I’m rejecting you right away—” Alpha Asher said suddenly, making me glance up at him with shock written on my face.
“What?” I muttered slowly.
“Wait, Were you expecting me to accept you as my mate?” He asked coldly, and I shut my eyes tightly.
Slowly, the crowd began to laugh wildly, making me wish I could just disappear from their midst….
A woman amidst the crowd suddenly spoke up, “Your highness, She’s an Omega and is the same girl who was blamed for her parent's disappearance,”
Alpha Asher suddenly looked at me with a smirk on his face, “Are you still expecting me to accept you after hearing this?” He asked, but I kept mute—as tears kept threatening to fall from my eyes.
“You can never be my mate—Have you even calmed down to take a look at yourself from head to toe?” He asked coldly, as my eyes became red—I was trying hard to keep my tears in.
“I’m pretty sure the moon goddess made a big mistake by assigning you as a mate to me,” He said, and that was when I couldn’t take it anymore.
The tears that had been threatening to drop from my eyes suddenly flowed freely on my cheeks, as his painful words stung my heart repeatedly.
“I’m sorry,” I said, as I wept quietly.
“You can’t dress, you’re not even beautiful, you’ve been blamed for your parents disappearance and to top it all—you’re an omega.....” He said, and suddenly added, “Were you thinking I was going to even accept you without hearing you’re an Omega?” He asked me, and I slowly shook my head.
“Then you got it right—because you’re not even the type of lady any man would want in his life—” He said coldly, and I felt my heart shatter at this particular word he said.
That instant, I began to look down on myself and decided I was going to end up as a lone wolf.
I slowly looked up to glance at the Alpha, and surprisingly, everything I felt for him at that moment was—Hatred!
He had said enough, but I didn’t have any right to talk back at him.....
“Who was I?” I asked myself with tears in my eyes, but still, I couldn’t think of a response.
“You just need to leave my presence—seeing you here irritate me a lot,” He said, and I gasped lightly, before I breathed deeply.
“Yes, your highness,” I bowed, as I turned to take my leave….
My mind went towards directions—
This world meant nothing to me anymore because I had no one to live for.....
My lovely parents suddenly disappeared one day without any trace of them, leaving me alone in the hands of the people of Blue Iris City.
I was all alone, working hard to survive…and to make ends meet….
I didn’t have any friends, not even one—since everyone from this city treated me like an outcast.
What I needed that moment was a consolation from someone dear to my heart…someone just like my parents, but no one was there.
As I walked out of the Alpha’s Mansion dejectedly, many thoughts rummaged my head as I thought about what Alpha Asher said earlier.
“Was I really not the type of lady any man would want in his life?” I couldn’t help but ask myself as tears clouded my eyes.
Taking a step at a time, I headed home to relax my head.
I had a job to babysit a child who was at home, but that moment was not just the time.
I needed time to take care of myself because the rejection I faced was not easy.
I have faced rejection from the city for years now—but rejection from one’s mate feels different.
It hurts and it also breaks—
“I wish all these happening to me turn out to be a dream,”
